Our Roots

The Okotoks Agricultural Society is the oldest ongoing Agricultural Society in Western Canada with a history of providing the community with a top quality agricultural forum since 1892. Back then, Okotoks was called Dewdney and Alberta was part of the North West Territories. In 1905, Dewsdney became the town of Okotoks and the sheep Creek Agricultural Society, as it was known then, became the Okotoks Agricultural Society.

The 58 Founding Members

In the beginning…..It all began when 58 founding members of The Sheep Creek Agricultural Society paid the first annual subscription of one dollar on January 1, 1892 at Dewdney in the North West Territories.
